About Us

We are a church body of many skills, talents, and life experiences.  We seek to work together to attempt to accomplish God's purpose for us at CCUMC.  We are also attempting to be equipped and empowered to enter this new century with the use of the computer as an outreach and information base of our ministries and services.

"Our congregation is alive and well!  Many activities, ranging from worship settings to Sunday School to youth and children's activities to Bible studies to fellowship opportunities, etc. are offered here.  You are encouraged to immerse yourself in the life of our congregation.

What we are about is not the spending of time in meaningless activity but rather we are seeking to grow together in our faith and commitment to Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.  Go with us on the journey.  Commit yourself to helping those around you on the journey.  Let us move forward with faith having learned from the past but living in the present and then living with trust in God for a bright and glorious future.  The past has been great but the best is yet to be!  God has been good and God will continue to bless us as we are guided and empowered by the Spirit in both our living and doing."  - Rev. Paul Inks

In November of 1965 this congregation was formed under the leadership of Dr. Donald Whetzel, district Superintendent.  Services were held in the Mercer Road Fire Hall, Butler, Pennsylvania,  from that date until December 24, 1970 when the first service was held in a new building on Duffy Road, in Butler, Pennsylvania.  The first stage of the building included "Oz Hall" and the classrooms and hallway leading up to the current narthex.  The next stage of our building, including the sanctuary, narthex, offices, Sunday School classrooms, was completed in 1981.

Leadership for the first months was provided by part-time supply pastor, William Blair.  In June of 1966, Edward Clark was appointed as the first full-time pastor.  In January of 1968, Cloyd Osborne was appointed as pastor of the congregation, a position he filled until June 30, 1986.  Paul Inks was appointed as pastor of the growing congregation  July 1, 1986 and served until his retirement July, 2000.  In July, 2000, Oden Warman was appointed as pastor of the congregation. On July 1, 2005 Rev. Lisa Grant was appointed to replace Oden Warman when he was called to serve elsewhere. Effective July 1, 2008, Rev. Howard Burrell has been appointed to fill the vacancy left when Lisa Grant was reassigned to a position in the conference center.

From the small group of interested persons who first gathered in Mercer Road Fire Hall, Butler, PA, the church has grown to a congregation of over 700 full members.  It has been exciting to see this congregation develop over the years into such a vibrant body of committed believers of Jesus Christ.  There are many opportunities to worship, study, fellowship and serve.  Each person is encouraged to live out their faith by giving of their time, talent, and treasure in the service of the Lord through the church.  Together we can, by the grace of God, fulfill His will and purpose for us
