Tithes & Giving

Methodism’s founder John Wesley said, “I look upon all the world as my parish.” Wesley reminded us that we are called to step out of our little corner of the world to spread the good news, transform hopelessness into hope and help God’s children wherever they may be.

“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”Matthew 25:35-36, NRSV

While it would be wonderful if we could reach out personally to everyone who needs our help, we know that is impossible. So we gather regularly with our congregation at Christ Community and put our tithes and offerings into the offering plate, and through a carefully crafted system of United Methodist mission and ministry our gifts stretch around the world.

Your contributions to Christ Community UMC not only benefit our church, but also have regional, national and international impact through our connectional giving system. Most of the money you give is used to support the ministries of Christ Community UMC.

When we give out of love for Christ, and with a generous heart, it causes many changes within us. Here are a few to think about:
  • It increases our intimacy and directs our attention and heart to Christ. (Matthew 6:21)
  • It increases our character, conforming us to Christ’s image as an unselfish giver.
  • It helps us realize the true ownership of ALL of our possessions. (I Chronicles 29:11-12)
  • It teaches us to trust and submit everything to God. (Deuteronomy 14:22-23)
  • It works as our greatest weapon against the idolatry of money and its illusion of power in our lives.

Ways to give:

  • Place your offering in an offering basket during any worship service
  • Mail your contribution to the church office (205 North Duffy Road Butler, PA 16001)
  • Donate your assets (like stock)/or will the church to continue the vision of Christ Community for generations to come

What is a tithe?


A tithe is 10% of your income that is given to God before anything else is spent. Tithing was created for our benefit. It is to teach us how to keep God first in our lives and how to be unselfish people. Unselfish people make better husbands, wives, friends, relatives, employees and employers. God is trying to teach us how to prosper over time.

Many people have observed that after they stopped tithing, their finances seemed to get worse. In the Book of Malachi, God promises that if you do not rob Him of your tithing, He will bless and protect you.
